Review: Maybelline Eyestudio Hyper Glossy Liquid Liner (Black)

Eyeliners are one of my must-wear makeup item to define my small slanted eyes. I usually avoid using liquid liners since I got shaky hands, so I often end up with pencil, or pen, or gel liner. But, I got jealous of those Youtubers or even my fellow beauty bloggers who could easily draw flawless lines using liquid liners. So I think, I have to, have to, have to nail it as well!

Menurut gue, kalo hobi dandan, rasanya belom afdol kalo belom jago make eyeliner cair. Tapi itu menurut gue loh ya. Hehehe...

And I chose this, from conversations with some fellow bloggers, as one of the friendliest liquid liners, both in applicator, lasting power, and price. So, here is what I have to say.

The packaging is a bit tiny. Nothing fancy about the bottle. It was all black plastic with a glossy letters on it. When I first bought this, it was sealed with a clear plastic. But, in some countries, they are sold in a carton seal.

The shade is black, and it ONLY HAVE ONE SHADE, which is BLACK.

Please don't mistake this liner with Maybelline Hyper Glossy Runway Pop Color Liner, which has 5 different shades. Well, the formula may be the same, but there's a slight difference on the bottle design. This one is more simple. Please remember that BLACK is the one with PINK LETTERS on it. Don't be mistaken. (I didn't wear glasses when I purchased this, so of course it was damn hard!).

Btw, I used to review this colorful liner in orange shade, check it out here.

The ingredients were listed in the plastic seal I already tore. But this is what I found from the internet:

G850605 INGREDIENTS: AQUA / WATER, ACRYLATES/ETHYLHEXYL ACRYLATE COPOLYMER, DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, ALCOHOL DENAT., STEARETH-20, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, LAURETH-21, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, XANTHAN GUM, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, p-ANISIC ACID, SODIUM DEHYDROACETATE, DISODIUM EDTA, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE POWDER, MALTODEXTRIN, TOCOPHEROL, [+/- MAY CONTAIN: CI 77266 / BLACK 2] F.I.L. B52117/1.

This applicator is actually pretty short which is an advantage for me. Imagine that awkward moment when you literally have to stick your cheeks to the mirror because your eyes hardly can see anything. So, a short applicator is truly a bless for me.

The tip of the brush is pointy, really helpfull to draw a thin line. However when I pushed the brush a little bit further, it also helped me to draw a thicker line. Great for drawing a cat-wink edge. This brush also pretty hard. It's not too soft which I like the most since I'm a beginner on this. Totally an applicator for rookies.

The black is pretty intense. A true jet black with glossy finishing. How long it dries depends on how thick you draw the line. But on me, it only need about five seconds to dry. So I don't really have problems with smudging lines due to you accidently blink your eyes when your liners still wet.

***

An example on one of my EOTDs.

***

This is one of the rare products that fulfill its promise to be smudgeproof yet waterproof. I wore this from 9 am to 5 pm, it didn't move at all until the time I wipe it with makeup remover. It also didn't hard to be removed, once it's done, it'll turn to small flakes. Typical waterproof eyeliners.

The result on my eyes are glossy so this might not look pretty nice for photo session. I also don't find any sting when on every application. Usually my eyes are pretty sensitive to liquid liners, but not to this, so I think this one is pretty friendly for sensitive eyes.

However this might not feel comfortable once it dries since it'll leave that annoying feeling on your eyes, like you wear an eyelid scotch tape. This usually happen if I draw a thick line like on the picture above. But if I just apply a thin one, it feels comfortable enough.

This photo was taken after 10 hours of usage. No edit alert! Well, you may find my eyebrows and foundation were pretty ruined, but the liner didn't move AT ALL. I wore this liner that day on a pretty tiring humid outdoor activity, and I also splashed my face with Wudhu water, twice. My oily eyelids and teary eyes doesn't seem to have any effect on this liner

Overall, although I still need to learn to apply liquid liner, but I think I found my holy grail eyeliner already. Finally.

Verdicts:
  • Waterproof
  • Smudgeproof
  • Intense black shade
  • User friendly applicator
  • Doesn't sting my eyes
  • Glossy finish
  • May felt uncomfortable if you apply a thick line
  • How much: around IDR 30K to 40K. Price may vary on each country.

Review: Revlon Colorstay Creme Gel Eye Liner (02/Brown)

Dipbrow Pomade by Anastasia Beverly Hills is one of my wishlist items, but the price is just above my range. Spending that much money on one beauty item is a big no no for me because I am not a MUA, but if I were, I'm buying it definetely. So, anyway, after reading some poisonous articles (LOLs) on several beauty blogs, I found out that you can use brown gel liner as a substitute for an eyebrow drawer.

And after, again, reading, some beauty blogs, Silky Girl gel liner is one of the most recommended with reasonable price, but I couldn't find any shade other than black, and I was too lazy walking around the shopping mall looking for just one item. So, when the BA in the Watsons drugstore offered me gel liners from Maybelline and Revlon, I chose the last one. Firstly, because it's a bit cheaper, and secondly, it is equipped with a built-in applicator which makes it more practical.

***

PACKAGING

The cap is made of plastic, but the pot is glass although it doesn't look vulnerable. This product is actually very tiny. Btw, you will find the applicator by flipping the cap and click it. I like this kind of built-in applicator. Separated ones are too much of a hassle, especially if I have to bring the product with me.

Somehow, bentuknya mengingatkan akan esedo bubuknya Inez. Siapa yang punya jugaaaa? Cek review nya di sini kalo penasaran.

The ingredients:

My shade is Brown or 002. Available also in black, grey, and plum.
See the nett weight? It's only 2.3 g. Well, actually tiny products has their own advantage. At least I don't have to keep this too long in my drawer until it run out, so that I can keep on buying new ones. Agree?

The applicator in detail. It's actually equipped with a guard which I threw away already. Ribet. This applicator is very smooth and pretty thin. But you have to keep it clean from the product residue and always to click it back to the bottle. Or else, it will be stiff and hurt your eyelids the next time you apply it.

***

SWATCHES

I expected the formula will be matte, turned out it has glitters, but not too much. Only visible if you look at it very closely. But the shade is a pretty dark brown shade. The opacity, I must say, is a medium one. You really have to swipe more than once to get an opaque result, doesn't go along the way.

Swatch di tanganku... Ternyata ada glitternya booo, keliatan ga? Kirain matte. Gini nih kalo beli Revlon di apotik, BA nya bukan dari Revlon jadi dia kurang tau detil produknya gimana. Beda kalo beli di konter langsung.

These are the result on my eyes. Applying this product using the applicator is actually very easy. I can draw a thin line on my eyebrow. But the formula is very smooth and I doubt it will stay like that 24 hours like it promised

***

These are when freshly applied:

Applied on my eyebrows as eyeliners.

If you smudge it using the applicator or simply your finger tip, you can make a simple brown smokey eyes like this. They don't appear to be too intimidating, do they?

***

I prone to oily lids and my skin type is normal oily, and by the 4th hour, the color faded a bit and smudged to my eyebags like usually happened to most of my eyeliners. Since the color is brown, the smudge effect wasn't as obvious as when you wear a black liner, but it's still a problem especially when I wore soft lenses. On the eyebrows, on the contrary, this liner stayed pretty well until the end of the day. Well, they faded a bit, but juuust a slightest bit. Maybe because my skin condition on the eyebrows area isn't as greasy as my eyelids. Please note, that I didn't wear any eye primer/base underneath it, just to see how this product perform on its own. Maybe if you apply eye base first, the result will be different.

The glitter effect, somehow, is pretty obvious. Well, this might be disturbing for those of you who prefer natural and matte result. I saw my eyes and eyebrows looked a bit shimmering under the lamp light and some of the glitter residue will remain on your face after you wipe it with a makeup remover. LOLs. But, I'm the type of person who likes to wear red eyeliners and purple lipstick... Sooo, I don't really mind with that.

The texture itself, since it's not very opaque, is very buildable especially for beginners. The user friendly applicator also makes it easier for you to draw a thin line. It is very creamy textured as well, compared to my Etude House Gel Liner, it is even creamier and less pigmented.

Overall opinion, this product really does fulfill its promise to "stay" on my eyebrows and eyelids the whole day, although the number "24" is a bit exagerrated, since it didn't really stayed that long, but at least it does a pretty god job defining my eyes (and eyebrows as well) for more than 8 hours (with fading effect, of course).

That's all my opinion this. Please note that different shade delivers different result, as well as your own skin condition/type.

My take for this shade:
  • Dark brown shade
  • It has glitters but not too much
  • Doesn't go along the way, but this also makes this product very buildable, esp. for beginners
  • Easy to apply cream
  • Good applicator
  • Very tiny (2.3g)
  • Waterproof? Yes
  • Smudgeproof? Not really, on my oily lids. Maybe this will be different on those who don't prone to oily lids.
  • Price: IDR 90K something (USD 8-9)

Review: Etude House Tear Eye Liner #1 (White Tear)

Hi all!

I know, it's far too late to review this product since it's launched more than 3 years ago. But in the past three years, I haven't even started blogging, yet have enough fund to spend it on cosmetics. So, I think now is the perfect time to make a review.

First of all, for those of you who are curious about what kind of product this is, it's basically eyeliner which is used to hilight your eyes, spesifically your lower lash beds. Beside that, I don't know what else this product is used for.

***

PACKAGING

There you go. This is the bottle which reminds me of the EH Proof 10 Eye PRimer bottle, unless the cap is light peach shade and the tiny bottle is made of transparent plastic. This is actually a very tiny product witha very long cap.

They are available in four shades:
White Tear (#1)
Silver Tear (#2)
Pearl (#3)
Sunlight (#4)

Although I gotta say, the types of this product is a bit confusing. Some say they have five shades (including the pink Shiny Tear), some only four, and the EH Indonesia official website mentioned only three of them (Sunlight is excluded).

I don't know about you, but I think the shades are quite similar one another. I found this when googling the swatches to several beauty blogs all around the world. Yeah, they are different, but it won't revealed too much since you're gonna need a small amount of the product applied to your eyes, and no one will ever notice unless if they look at your eyes veeerry closely. But, that's impossible, right? So, I guess you can just pick any color randomly, in case your favorite one is not available at the time.

My shade is #1 which is White Tear

The applicator is a brush rather than a felt tip, and it's quite pointy as well.

***

SWATCHES & PERFORMANCE

Swatches on my hand. The lighting somehow makes the left picture reflects a gold shade, but actually it's a pure white.

The result on my half-finished EOTD.

***

The tip of the applicator, like I said, is pointy and makes it easier to draw a thin line. But in some point, if I want to retouch the line again, the surface will look uneven. So, one important tip to use this is never to retouch the line you have drawn. The intencity is awfully transparent, so if you want to have a solid white result, I would suggest you to apply white eyeshadow on the first place.

Is it just me and my sensitive eyes, but every liquid liner always give me a sting effect when first applied, although it will fade gradually. The same thing happens to this liner, it stings although just a bit. I can bear it... needles and stitches hurt much more. LOLs.

One more thing I gotta say, this is not a waterproof product, so beware when you cry. And I gotta say that the glitters will gradually move to your eye ereas, how about you, does the same thing happen to you?

Overall, I like this product a lot. In fact it's been one must-have makeup item for me. Because I have  pretty bad dark circles and applying this near my tear duct area helps to brighten my eyes. It really gives you that sparkly effect, as if there's a pearly tear drop on the corner of your eyes. Hmmm, I think I know why this product was named Tear Eyeliner.

Verdicts:
  • White pearly shade
  • Brightens my eye
  • Sting my eyes, but just a bit
  • Not waterproof but it stays in place the whole day if you don't rub it
  • Pointy applicator
  • Price: IDR 70K to 80K, depends on the seller

Rating:
4,5 out of 5

Review: MIZZU Eyeliner Pen (Brown)

It's Mizzu time!

Kotaknya agak tajam, hati-hati kalo pas dipegang anak kecil ya. Warna kemasannya sesuai dengan jenis warnanya. By the way, pena-nya itu sebetulnya disegel plastik sampai ke tutup, tapi udah aku buka plastiknya sebagian. Hehehe...

The ingredients.

***

swatches & performance

The swatches taken in with camera flash and natural lighting.

Hahaha.

Apalagi kalo udah mo habis, beuuugh, susah banget intens-nya.

Penilaian:
  • Warnanya coklat gelap
  • Lumayan intens
  • Buildable result
  • Kuasnya ngga terlalu keras atau lembut, user friendly
  • Warnanya susah keluar kalo kena eyeshadow kebanyakan
  • Lumayan waterproof and smudgeproof
  • Kalau luntur hasilnya flaky, bukan smudge
  • Hasilnya semi glossy, tapi ngga lebay
  • Di mataku ngga perih
  • Murmer (IDR 30K) kira-kira

Review: Maybelline Hyperglossy Liquid Liner - Tangerine

In reality, black or brown eyeliner is enough. You can always replace multi colored eyeliner with applying eyeshadow with a wet angled brush. But it's such a hassle, and a real eyeliner, will definitely look different than an eyeshadow.

So I give this a shot. The infamous Maybelline multi color liquid liner.

Mine is Tangerine, or orange.

The brush tip is quite pointy, so far I like it. But the handle is too narrow for me.

This is what the color will look like on your eyelids. Ignore the mess, pretty please? It is very.... Orange. And it's glossy.

Some amount will stain your eyelashes if you're not carefull enough, like me. Just cover it with mascara. You don't wanna look like having orange eyelashes, or do you?

Okay, let's test its waterproof performance.

The formula is glossy and a bit shimmering.

Run it with tap water. Still look amazing.

I rub it with my hand softly. Some lines were peeled off.

This is after I rubbed it violently. Hehehe. It turned to small flakes.

I have been using this product for about two months, but unfortunately, due to its funky effect, I can only wear this on special occassions, not everyday. On those times, I went out approximately for 5-6 hours and the orange lines stays quite well the whole time, if you don't rub them of course (no eyeliner can stand strong if you rub it!). And it doesn't stain my lower eyelids, maybe because its flaky effect when you rub it. FYI, I have very oily eyelids.

One thing I gotta warn you that this liner kinda gimme a sting sensation, I don't know whether some of you might experience the same thing with me, or not, but it surely does sting. But only on first attempt and will fade after quite some time.

So far I like bright colored eyeliner since I have racoon eyes, at least it eliminates the chance of having more dark circles like the effect you get when wearing black or brown eyeliners. Yeah, I guess I just found one trick for that problem XD.

Conclusion:
Waterproof
Smudgeproof
Bright orange, creates funky look
Glossy effect
Stings my eyes
Pointy brush but for me the tip is too soft
Price: around IDR 40K (USD 4)

Repurchase?
Noooo, it's just for an experiment. There are tons of multi colored eyeliners and I'd like to try them all.

How about you? Have your tried this eyeliner series, if so, in what color?

Thanks for reading.

Ps: written based on my own experience. Results may vary to each individual.

Review: Rubotan vs My Darling--Liquid Liner Comparison

Back with my second eyeliner review, this time I'm gonna do a comparison again. Now it's all about liquid liner. I aimed to write this in Bahasa since one of the products is locally made, but nah, who knows some of you who don't speak Bahasa and live in this country would like to try? Heheh. But why these two? Because these liners are like the holy grail liners for most make up lovers but there's a big gap on their price range. Which one is better? Let's see.

MY DARLING LIQUID LINER (black)

It's been only a few years since the first time I use liquid liner. Drawing my eyelids is totally different from scratching my pencil and acrylic paint on my canvas, it's extremely difficult. Without my glasses or lenses I have to literally stick my cheeks on the mirror to draw the line precisely. What a hassle!

One of my friends suggested this liner. It was merely IDR 15K (it is now IDR 25K) on a local cosmetic shop at that time. At first she kinda belittled it, just like I did. So cheap! Would it burn? What if I got blind from cosmetic poisoning? Hahaha. But oh well, I needed some practice, so I don't mind. Little did I know that some other friends even bought them with lower prices!

Here's the tube

Well, it's coming out of my old collection. So it looks miserable. Sorryyyy.... This is my second item. The tube actually comes in black plastic with heart shaped dark red cap filled with golden letters and symbols. This even packed in a red box with BPOM registered number and its list of ingredients. Just google it. You'll find tons of Indonesian beauty bloggers reviewing this sweet thing.

Many complains the brush is too soft and the handle is too long, but for me those are one of the advantage of this product. The pointy brush tip and that long handle make it easier for me to draw exactly the precise line I wanted. I absolutely love the brush. The result is kinda matte look. And I have to warn you this will sting a bit, just a bit, the first time you apply it.

I've been using this for 2 or 3 years as my daily makeup routine, from 8 am to 10 pm. And for me this cheap liner is waterproof and doesn't smudge on my oily lids even after I took my Wudhu, in fact, it will turn to small flakes if you accidently rubbed your eyelids. So it won't make you look like a panda. This liner is also easily removed. Not bad. Not bad at all for IDR 25K.

RUBOTAN LIQUID LINER

For me this liquid liner is still a mistery. I've read a lot of reviews from local to international blogs. I even captured this liner used on some of the most prestigious runway shows like Jean Paul Gaultier. Even the famous makeup artists would recommend this oh-so-called holy grail liquid liner. But where this product come from. Japan. That's all. The ingredients? The company? The official website? Zero result. Maybe some of you would be so kind to give me more information about this?Japanese, hello.....

It comes in a glass bottle and a plastic white cap, doesn't look too convincing for a famous item. It looks like a nail polish to be honest. I bought this for IDR 140K through online shop. Some other shops would offer cheaper price but I bought from the seller I trust.

The brush is not very pointy, in my opinion, and the handle is too narrow. Maybe becoz I kinda used to the long and pointy brush of My Darling liner, I find this one a bit disturbing. Making the lining process a stressing one. Take a look at the brush comparison below:

See the big gap between them? Rubotan brush is not very applicable for me. The result on my eyelids was some kind of a curly line drawn by a shaking hand of a rookie beautician. LOL. Well, maybe it wasn't actually that bad. I just have to adjust my ability and get used to it first, by practicing a lot.

The Rubotan result is very black, and it has glossy effect. Very very vynil. I used this liner for a couple of times all day long and it didn't smudge at all!!!! Yaayy!!! As well as waterproof and no sting reaction on my eyes too.

What excite me more is this easily removed. I mean, you don't have to dab a makeup remover, instead, jus peel it off like a peel off mask, and it will me removed without leaving any mark. Oh, by the way, this is my favorite process :)

COMPARISON

 Let's see their performances

Pardon me for not providing the result on my eyes. I did try a few times and they all fail. So I provide this photo instead. The Rubotan finishing is glossy and My Darling is matte.

This is after I put this under tap water. They are waterproof as far as I can see.

I dab this with baby oil and cotton in one swipe. Still look pretty amazing.

This is after I wipe the baby oil a few times. Rubotan liner was still there while My Darling was barely. See? They don't smudge. They just turn to small flakes. You can even peel off the Rubotan with your bare hand, really.

CONCLUSION

Which one to choose? I would say both because they have their own goods and bads. My Darling eyeliner seemed to be easier to apply, at least for me. It does sting a bit but still okay for me. I would choose this for my casual look or when I use my home makeup. Well, I do makeup even when I don't go out :)
And as for Rubotan, I love its glossy finishing, it's the blackest black I've ever seen. But the brush is not very comfortable, and the formula is too dilute, make it harder to apply.

Rubotan:
- glossy effect
- too dilute
- very black
- narrow handle and the brush is not very pointy
- waterproof and smudgeproof
- peel-off removing
- price range IDR 110-150K

My Darling:
- matte effect
- long handle and nice pointy brush
- waterproof and smudgeproof, but not as good as Rubotan
- will be flaky if you rub it off
- sting your eyes
- price: approximately IDR 25K

Will I buy them again? Maybe. They're good but not perfect. I haven't found my holy grail eyeliner just yet -_-

Well, thank you for reading. Hope this review is useful for you :)

Review: Etude House Drawing Show Creamy Liner & Proof 10 Auto Pencil "a Comparison"

You ever seen a creature, a mixed blood between a raccoon and a panda? Well, that's me, when using eyeliners. Especially when I draw them on my under eyelids. I mean, my eyes are sensitive towards beautiful boy almost anything including the wind. So, yeah, I shed tears a lot, things get worse because I have such oily eyelids. So they wouldn't last long on my eye. I used to wear brown pencil eyeliner to soften the smudge effect up, but c'mon, brown pencil? What can it do?
I heard that Bobbi Brown eyeliners is the superhero regarding its water resistant and smudge proof ability. But it's expensive, nooo I'm a cheap skate.
So I decided to try out eyeliners from Etude House. I bought two kinds of their eyeliners just in case. Let me show you my experience when using these two:

Etude House Proof 10 Auto Pencil

There are a few Proof 10 lines launched by EH and this is one of them. They claim this to be waterproof, smudge proof, and suitable for sensitive eyes. They come in five shades. Mine is BK801.

The pencil comes in a blue plastic body,  roll on type, equipped with a sharpener on the other side of the tip. It is quite pointy at the beginning but as you draw more, it'll turn to round shape which is a bit tricky to create a precise thin line. That's why it's equipped with a sharpener. But I prefer to just twist it up since sharpening will waste more product.

When I draw this, it didn't give the blackest black I wanted, maybe BK802 does better? I don't know. That shade was unavailable at the time I bought it. And when I apply my eyeshadow, this eyeliner looked even less pigmented, so I had to swipe more to get it more stand out than the shadow.

I will share the result later on. Let's move on to the other eye liner.

Etude House Drawing Show Creamy Liner

EH didn't claim this to be long lasting, but some reviews told it so. So I decided to buy this in BK802 shade. They actually comes in a few shades:

BK801 and BK802 are all black. But BK801 has a quick dry formula which will dry at its first stroke. Suitable for the experts. So I chose BK802.

This liner comes in a flirty triangle pink box. Inside it, you'll find the pot and a brush. They were set separately though, so I might keep the box to keep them together, just in case. Maybe they should have come in a combined set.

The brush really did a great job for a precise line, thick or thin. I love the brush! The result also gives you a pretty dense black color. Much much more pigmented than the pencil.

Comparison

Okay, first let me show the result after I use this for about 8 hours. I draw different liners on each of my eyes. It was such a busy day, just look at my eye bags! LOL. I took this with my iPad though, sorry for the low resolution.

I live in a humid hot city, so oily eyelids is a definite case. The pencil liner faded faster than the gel one. Can you see it? But it sure did a better job regarding its smudge proof and water resistant ability. It actually smudged but juuuust a little. Maybe those with non-oily eyelids would love this. But for me it's just slightly better than my old ones.

And as for the gel liner? It smudged. Definitely smudged. I mean, a lot. But it stays longer than the pencil. So I guess these two has their own pluses and minuses.

Conclusion

EH Proof 10 Auto Pencil
  • Hard to get the precise line once the tip is no longer pointy
  • the color is not very pigmented, very natural look
  • does not sting
  • easily faded
  • but it's more smudge proof and water resistant
  • price when I bought this: IDR 90K (USD 8-9). May vary.

EH Drawing Show Creamy Liner
  • the brush will give you a nice precise line
  • very pigmented. This is what you'd call: jet black!
  • does not sting
  • not easily faded
  • less smudge proof and water resistant
