Review: Maybelline Color Show Lipstick (Red My Lips #202)

Assalaamu'alaykum,

How's your fasting, dear Muslim friends? For me, until this post was published, I haven't done any of my fasting yet since I'm in my period. Hiks... too bad. Usually if have my period at the beginning of Ramadhan like this, I won't be able to do my Ied prayer. My last one was in 2008 and haven't done any Ied prayer since then. I never get the chance. Hopefully this year will be different. Aamiin.

On fasting, I usually got my face pale and wearing a chilie red lipstick will be a great compliment to cover that dull look. Since I lost my old Wardah red lipstick, I decided to buy a new one. This is what I could find when searching through the drugstore.

PACKAGING

This Maybelline Color Show Lipstick has a similar packaging with that legendary Watershine series, only the color is a dark silver with red lining in the middle. It's wrapped in plastic for security.

Anyway, if you tear that plastic, this is all you'll get. A plain tube. Which I really don't mind. I like this kind of classic lipstick packaging, easy to be opened and closed, with a slim tube.

This is my shade. 202 or Red My Lips. Kinda gambling with the color since I picked it without swatching. But judging from the sticker color, the shade was a true red, I hoped.

SWATCHES & PERFORMANCE

Just like the tube, the bullet shape is a classic pointed shape which is an advantage for drawing more detailed line, especially on the cupid's bow. But it was a bit discouraging when I saw the bullet inside. Turned out the shade was not a pure red just like I expected. Or at least, that was what I thought.

When I swatched this once, I thought yeah just I pressumed, I picked the wrong color, but when I swiped it gradually, the color changed into a pretty chili red color, just like I wanted.

My bare lips, and my applied lips in both lighting, indoor and outdoor. I don't know why the color looked so dull in outdoor picture, but believe me, that indoor picture was the actual color of this lipstick. The texture is creamy and a bit glossy... just a bit.

Warning ya, ini lipstik menor warnanya. At least, itu menurutku.

Here are some pictures of my half face. Somehow I just can't stop myself from posting these.

The delinquent lips. LOLs.

Conclusion:
I'm not a great fan of Maybelline lipstick since the texture is a bit drying on my lips. Overtime, I'll usually get that chapped look on the inside of my inner lips when using all of Maybelline lipsticks so I prefer Revlon. But I don't know why I kept on buying these. Maybe because Maybelline is easier to be found, both in offline and online stores. While, Revlon is more exclusive I think.

The intensity was a great one. I don't know is it because of the bold color I chose, or that all of Color Show series are this intense.

The staying power is actually medium. The product faded after I took a meal and this one stains your coffee cup since it's creamy textured. And just like any other bold lipstick, this one stains your lips, so I guess it'd still be okay if you don't do the retouch once the product was faded.

Verdicts:
  • Bold chili shade
  • Creamy texture
  • Glossy look but not to much
  • Medium staying power and highly pigmented
  • A bit drying, at least on my lips
  • Price: IDR 35K to 40K (USD 3-4)

And this is how the color works on my face:

I barely post my whole face when reviewing a product, but I just wanna show you how I do my home makeup. Seriously, I also do my makeup even when I don't have to go out.
Kalo ada yang bilang aku kecentilan, plis deh... masa iya ke mall dandan tapi di rumah kucel. Kasian dong suami. Dandanlah biar pun tipis-tipis ^_^

Abused tools that day:
  • Viva Compact Powder (natural)
  • Viva Eyebrow Pencil (brown)
  • Maybelline Color Show Lipstick (202) err... this one was applied for review purposes only. I don't adore red lipticks as home makeup. LOLs.

See you again and happy fasting!

Review: Maybelline Hyperglossy Liquid Liner - Tangerine

In reality, black or brown eyeliner is enough. You can always replace multi colored eyeliner with applying eyeshadow with a wet angled brush. But it's such a hassle, and a real eyeliner, will definitely look different than an eyeshadow.

So I give this a shot. The infamous Maybelline multi color liquid liner.

Mine is Tangerine, or orange.

The brush tip is quite pointy, so far I like it. But the handle is too narrow for me.

This is what the color will look like on your eyelids. Ignore the mess, pretty please? It is very.... Orange. And it's glossy.

Some amount will stain your eyelashes if you're not carefull enough, like me. Just cover it with mascara. You don't wanna look like having orange eyelashes, or do you?

Okay, let's test its waterproof performance.

The formula is glossy and a bit shimmering.

Run it with tap water. Still look amazing.

I rub it with my hand softly. Some lines were peeled off.

This is after I rubbed it violently. Hehehe. It turned to small flakes.

I have been using this product for about two months, but unfortunately, due to its funky effect, I can only wear this on special occassions, not everyday. On those times, I went out approximately for 5-6 hours and the orange lines stays quite well the whole time, if you don't rub them of course (no eyeliner can stand strong if you rub it!). And it doesn't stain my lower eyelids, maybe because its flaky effect when you rub it. FYI, I have very oily eyelids.

One thing I gotta warn you that this liner kinda gimme a sting sensation, I don't know whether some of you might experience the same thing with me, or not, but it surely does sting. But only on first attempt and will fade after quite some time.

So far I like bright colored eyeliner since I have racoon eyes, at least it eliminates the chance of having more dark circles like the effect you get when wearing black or brown eyeliners. Yeah, I guess I just found one trick for that problem XD.

Conclusion:
Waterproof
Smudgeproof
Bright orange, creates funky look
Glossy effect
Stings my eyes
Pointy brush but for me the tip is too soft
Price: around IDR 40K (USD 4)

Repurchase?
Noooo, it's just for an experiment. There are tons of multi colored eyeliners and I'd like to try them all.

How about you? Have your tried this eyeliner series, if so, in what color?

Thanks for reading.

Ps: written based on my own experience. Results may vary to each individual.
